how good is patriot ram?

1. First you have to understand that most RAM "brands" that you recognize, don't actually "make RAM". Some by just the RAM modules and put them on the PCB and add heatsinks... other just add the heat sinks.

2. Most brands have various "product lines" so you can not compare brand name, you need to compare comparably priced product lines from each vendor. However other than aesthetics, the highest end line and the two below it will be identical other than heat sinks and graphics / color. Also, as product lines mature, manufacturers will often drop to a lower tier supplier when yields improve from lower cost manufacturers.

Personally, I look for Mushkin Redline first ... if I can't get my hands on it (it's highly desired by competitive overclockers so is oft in short supply). I'll look at what is available from GSkill, Corsair, Patriot, Avexir, Geil ... quite often users will ultimately choose based upon aesthetics.

Like PSUs, it matters less what logo is painted on it than who was the OEM who built it and on what platform.
