i had recently bought GTA 5 on my sony vaio svs13a15gnb which was released in 2012 which had high end specs but had noticed that it cant run gta 5 in high setting such as shader and texture quality high and noticed huge lags.It runs fairly good at medium settings. So what to do to enjoy the game which cost me a lot

ok first of all you should have checked what other people were getting performance before you purchased the game and second of all, that GPU will not come close to providing half decent framrates at any res or high settings,if you expected high settings then that is...

I doubt you want to spend $800 to play a $40 game on higher settings, run the game on medium, when your laptop dies, replace it then. Your 640M was a mid-range video card when new, and it's 4 generations old by now (740m, 840m, 940m and now we have the 10xx models. You can probably get a used laptop for $400-500 that can play GTA V on high decently smooth, but are you planning on spending that much just to play a game on higher settings? Especially if the game "cost you a lot"?

ok first of all you should have checked what other people were getting performance before you purchased the game and second of all, that GPU will not come close to providing half decent framrates at any res or high settings,if you expected high settings then that is your mistake, to play gta 5 on high settings on a laptop your looking at over$1000 new minimum,if you thought you knew the capability of the aging hardware you have then you should also know that 5 year old mobile GPU will not cut it for any of todays graphically intensive games, no matter how "high end" it was 5 years ago(it was not a high end gpu when it was released by the way) now im sorry if that came across as hostile(im not trying to be :p) but sometimes being as blunt as possible is best. hope i provided you with your answer :)
