Hello boys and girls, i've just thrown together a fresh build, i5, 1060, z170 mother, 2tb hdd, 2x8GB ddr4 ram. Power is passing to all of the hardware components but my screen remains black. I've tried swapping around the RAM, using one stick, note that the A1 slot is blocked by the CPU fan.
Also, beign a fresh build i have no drivers, no operating system.
I've tried using different cables HDMI>HDMI wont work nor with DVI>HDMI.

Any and all help appreciated, i have a lab set up in the next room.

Solution
Your graphics card not being in the top slot should not be a problem.

1)Make sure you 8 pin CPU connector is plugged in and all cables are fully seated

2) Try unplugging the GPU from the PCIe slot and try running of you CPU's integrated graphics

3) Try to reset the CMOS look it up your motherboard manual if you are unsure

4) Put the stock cooler on the CPU and try to use slot A1
