I've been having an issue with my computer for several months. At first I thought it was RAM, so I swapped out RAM chips. Some configurations seemed to have positive effects. I started to think I had a corrupt hard drive. My computer would freeze at the splash screen on boot. I reinstalled windows on a different hard drive and it fixed the problem almost completely for a few weeks.
I have been monitoring my CPU temps practically this whole time as well. Low temps being around 20 degrees and high temps being around 50 degrees at boot. Idling around 20 to 30 degrees. 50 degrees seems to be a bit too hot for the processor to be running at boot, which got me to thinking it might be my CPU pump going out.
Today I've tested my computer's temps using Corsair Link.
There are two motherboard temp readings view-able on Link. Temp 1 never seems to go below around 40 degrees and it stays up around 50 degrees under load, compared to Temp 2, which maintains about 34 degrees. Everything else seems stay at about 30 degrees no matter what with the exception of the GPU, which under load is also getting up around 60 degrees. The configuration of my computer has the RAM really close to the CPU. I've wondered if the CPU is getting so hot that it's overheating the motherboard... and maybe that has messed up the RAM dimms.
If I have my case open with a fan next to it I can pretty much run my computer normally unless I'm doing anything game-related.... then the computer freezes.
Assuming the problem is the motherboard overheating, would the fix be to get a new motherboard?
Would getting a new pump cause the processor to run cooler thus fixing the problem?
It also seems to run a little better if I have fewer USB devices plugged in.
