My board can't support anything pci express 3.0 or above. So I have to get a card that's pci express 2.0 and I was looking at this card and was wondering if it's worth it. If you don't think it is I will spend more on a card. I'm not trying to go cheap on this. I want to get something nice and that runs good. Thanks for any help!

Well, you can still have a PCIe 3.0 card, but it will detect it as 2.0 x8, but you will not see the difference. What motherboard, power supply, and CPU do you have?

As you are aware, that is a pretty old processor, but it should be able to handle it. As far as your PSU, you may want to consider an upgrade. But since these parts are so old, it may not be worth getting a new PSU.

If you can, save up 400-500 to get a decent PC

Is the board that old? I just bought it as a combo. So I had something better than pentium. Trying to game on a LAPTOP that had pentium and can only support up to 4gb of ram sucks. This new board can support up to 24gb of ram and any core i7. I am willing to upgrade the psu if necessary. So your saying I can get a card that's pci express 3.0 and it will work? Just will detect as 2.0?

Yes, it will still work,a nd you will not see a difference. As far as age, this is when Intel first started going with the Core i-series. That i7 was release back in 2008. So it may be time to upgrade your motherboard when you can.

My opinion is that i7 is not that bad. It's the equivalent of a new budget gaming CPU. Pair it with a reasonable GPU and you should have a decent budget gaming PC. I have had good experience with Antec power supplies should you should be fine with that. The only thing is that the GT 730 DDR5 is a very low budget gaming card. As long as you understand that and have reasonable expectations then I think you are on the right track. Keep settings and resolution low in games and they should be playable.
