Ping Constantly Fluctuating

Whenever I play games, my ping undergoes a constant cycle of rising and falling between 30ms and 150ms. The range of fluctuation is very specific and consistent.

Initially I thought it was my internet, so like many have suggested I used an ethernet cable to play the same games and the ping was a constant 30ms. No fluctuations.

I then tried upgrading my network adapter card. I originally had a Gigabyte 11ac Wireless PCIe Card with Bluetooth 4.2 - GC-WB867D-I and have upgraded it to an Asus 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 PCI-E Adapter. For information, my router is the SKY HUB SR-102. I know its not dual band but I am planning to upgrade the router ASAP.

There was a slight improvement in the ping but it was still fluctuating between 30ms and 120ms.

I'm fairly inexperienced at networking problems so would be great to understand the best steps to take in order to find out what the problem is?

Any other advice, tips or things you have come across that would help resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Solution
If you have physical access to the router (you must since you say you are planning to upgrade), then powerline networking is an option unless this is a building-to-building type network with separate power ...

Yeah I understand this to be the best situation but it is just not practical for me to use ethernet or powerline in my circumstance. Wifi (albeit slower) should still be able to provide a consistent ping.

Is the fluctuation to do with interference at 2.4Ghz frequency or is there something wrong with my adapter settings?
