Can't pinpoint the problem, tried a lot of stuff. Your thoughts?

Hey! It's a long story, sorry! I don't know what's the problem so I'll be giving every info I have.

So, I'm trying to fix a desktop and install a linux distro. All the parts mentioned are used and old.
First I tried to install Zorin, but in the installation the background images were corrupted and it only installed if I used a couple of advanced boot commands. I'm sure it's not the ISO cause I downloaded it twice and even checked the checksum. After managing to install it, it wouldn't recognize almost anything, no ethernet, no audio, no mouse, problems with the (onboard) GPU.

Tried installing Mint, it worked perfectly, nothing like Zorin, but it would randomly crash with a corrupted noise image, wouldn't last more than 5min without crashing.

I decided the mobo was the problem because it recognized the RAM and everything else seemed fine, so I changed it.

Now the mobo would turn on, but it wouldn't display anything and wouldn't beep for errors neither. Tried the RAMs and found the problem, only one stick (out of 2x2gb) was working and only in one of the slots.
Managed to install Mint after some problems, it sometimes would simply crash during install, would freeze after clicking install, it even gave me some kernel errors related to the linux firewall (I googled the error). Nevertheless, I installed it. But now, it's randomly crashing again like the last mobo and now even with the only working RAM stick it won't display anything.
Memtest is running it's 2nd pass now, 1h30m testing and no errors.

I think it is the RAM, but I don't have any spare to test.
I don't think it's the HD because, if that were the case, it would at least get to post before crashing (at least I think it would).
Maybe this mobo is dead too?
CPU was changed together with the mobo. (AMD to Intel)
PSU is new so it's not it.
Maybe it's some incompatibility with Linux? I didn't try windows and really don't think Linux is the problem but I'm willing to believe in anything right now.

Specs-
The first mobo was a Asus M2N-MX SE with some AMD x2 dual core something (sorry, AMD cpu naming is too flashy for me, I can' remember it).
The second is a ECS G31T-M7 with some Intel Quad Core.
2x generic brand 2GB DDRII
Samsung 500GB HD
Corsair 500W gold.
Not my choice of specs and branding so don't blame me, I'm just trying to fix it.

If you need any more info, please say so.

I'm out of ideas and thinking about breaking everything with a hammer, what do you guys think? Sorry for the monologue.

Thanks a lot!
