Hi, I am thinking about changing from satellite TV to cable and bundling it with my internet. Right now I have DSL internet so I will need to switch that as well. I understand I will need different modems etc. Can someone explain this to me? Can I use the same modem for both the TV and internet or do they require different modems? Also, which is the best one to get for the best price? I appreciate any opinions about making this switch pros or cons. Thanks in advance.

Well your ISP usually provides modems. I would always go with what they have, because they usually have quality products that will match your speed. No need to over spend when the speed will not match the modem (i.e. 1Gbps modem paired with 300mbps from ISP).

Your provider should also provide a cable box (similar to DirecTV) for television. Cable is considered 10x faster than DSL in most areas. My area offers 2Mbps for speed for DSL, and up to 300Mbps for cable. It is a switch I recommend and something you will love. All this speed can be a bit pricey. Be sure to watch out for contracts and hidden fees. A lot of providers offer promotions, so be sure to know the terms after the first 12 months. You may have to pay an activation and...
This is completely dependent on the ISP.

a Modem is of course required for Cable Internet, and no it isn't the same kind of modem as DSL.

The Cable TV may or may not require a "modem" or devices to generate a digital signal for your TV, depending on the service you get. These units are almost always provided explicitly by the provider.

These concerns are very, very minor and will be handled by the ISP providing you service.

There are absolutely zero, i mean zero, cons to switching to cable.

Just gotta be careful with those hidden fees and promotions. Suddenlink and Cox got me like that. Now I know better. But other than price, speed is the major benefit, and will be great noticed. No more pages loading by sections. Pages should seem instant now.
