NOTE: This contains basic questions about motherboards, CPUs, and SSDs

I have:
"ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+ AMD 970 + SB950 6 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), gray USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS" motherboard

and a

"AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W FD6300WMHKBOX Desktop Processor" processor,

along with a GTX 1070 and 16gb of RAM.

I feel the GTX 1070 is great but I feel my cpu might be bottle-necking a bit, since games like Battlefield 1 the FPS drops into the 15-25fps range and I've seen benchmarks for the 1070 running on ultra pretty flawlessly.

So, my question is, are AMD processors worth my time? Would upgrading to a better AMD processor be a good choice, or would it be better to get a new motherboard that supports intel, and get an i7 or something of the sort? Recommendations?

Also, I've thought about getting a SSD, since I only have a 2TB HHD, with only 90gb of free space (I do lots of music stuff -- recording, mixing, production, and lots of VSTs and DAW compliments take a ton of space) Do SSDs have a noticeable difference in FPS? Or is that more just boot time, quickness of running programs, etc.

Sorry this post is a little all over the place, but to sum it up: Is my CPU do for an upgrade for the 1070? If so, should I stay AMD or switch to Intel? Any good CPU recommendations? Could a SSD improve my FPS in game?

Thanks in advance, whenever I have questions about my setup I come here and get fantastic responses and really appreciate it!

Current AMD cpus are not good options. For a CPU upgrade either go with a current gen Intel i5 or i7 or wait for AMDs Ryzen cpus.

A SSD will not increase FPS, it will only reduce loading times.

Bottom line is No, there are no current AMD processors that are worth the money. Perhaps the new Ryzen will change that, but right now Intel's i5 or i7 is probably where you want to be. Right now almost all of AMD's CPUs are beaten by Intel's i3s.

No updating to lets say a fx 8350 will not really help at all, the IPC (Instructions per Clock) is terrible on the FX series compared to haswell or skylake processors. I wouldn't recommend updating to anything fx related especially with a 1070 your CPU is 100% holding back your GPU. I'd recommend getting an i5 or i7 or waiting for Zen to come out. SSD's wont do anything for FPS in any way, all it will do is help load games quicker as the write and read speeds are way higher than that of a HDD. If you are running low on hard drive space I'd just buy another 2tb HDD. but if you want to boot windows quick and or games get an SSD.

Are you wanting to run it on ultra? If so, all the decent amd cpu's are going to bottleneck the 1070. Since you got the 1070 I'm assuming price isn't too much of a problem. As for the SSD, shouldn't really affect fps. I'd say i5 6600k or something along those lines should be good
