Have a Alienware x51 r2, Intel I3, 6gb ram. I have been noticing high ram usage when I'm just browsing the internet and listening to music. Ram is at 4.83 Gigs after being used for a bit. My pc used to have a virus but that was take care of. Not really sure whats wrong with it to be honest.

Wow. I have actually never encountered a virus that has survived a Windows reinstall, but I've heard of it happening.

For the really nasty viruses, I've heard of people using DBAN to completely wipe the drive before reinstalling Windows. Maybe give that a try?

Full disclosure, I'm running out of ideas here. I don't know what you did to deserve this, but you have my sympathies...

Are you using Google Chrome? It can be a bit of a resource hog if you have several tabs open.

Asides from that, see what background processes you have running, and if you can disable any of them.

Now that is interesting. It looks like the two Firefox processes add up to ~0.5GB of RAM being used. Which is pretty normal. I'm using 0.6 to write this reply right now. Something isn't adding up. Are you 100% certain the virus you had is gone? Because that (obviously) wouldn't show up in task manager, but would still consume a large amount of RAM, depending what it's doing.

On a side note, how often do you fully shutdown your laptop? Some of the programs you use could have memory leaks.

I have a feeling it's a virus, Have used malware bytes and other anti virus software and can't find anything. And I am using a desktop and yes I fully shut it down when I'm done using it.

Then yes, this is starting to sound like a particularly well hidden virus. If scans aren't helping, you might end up needing to reinstall Windows to get rid of it.

You might get away with just resetting to factory from Settings though, so try that first. That way it won't wipe your user documents at least.

Are these free antivirus programs you're using? Or do you have a subscription to Norton etc...
