Hi. Newbie to the forums here. Read the stickies, searched the forums and couldn't find a question/answer to my question. If this is in the wrong section, please redirect me to the appropriate section.

Summary: I'm studying for my A+. Learning about CPUs, data bus, etc.. In Mike Meyers 901/902 book, he alludes that the CPU is connected to the External Data Bus. Is this correct? From my understanding, the EDB is used only for peripheral connections such as speakers, mouse, keyboard, etc.. and that the CPU would be connected to the Internal Data Bus.

Is this correct? or is it truly connected to the EDB because CPUs are external components being added to the motherboard and therefore considered an external component?

Sorry for the novel. Just trying to be detailed about my thought process.

Solution
A CPU is connected through the CPU slot and communicates directly with the NorthBridge, It is an external component, but once placed in the motherboard its internal. there are no "real" external CPU connections. the EDB and IDB that you mention, I do believe that you may be referring to whats known as the fronst side bus, which are the bridges.

These control communication of all peripherals and all hardware between the computer components, These are the north and south bridge.
These link the CPU to PCI and Memory, as in these busses are multiple various controllers for assorted hardware, Sata controllers, Ethernet controllers, and more.

This is to the best of my knowledge, correct me if I happen to be misinformed, thank you.
