Hello, im in need of urgent advice regarding my self-built pc, it has been working fine over the last 6 months however since installing an RX 480 and a 1tb HDD yesterday it hasn't turned on. I tried removing the GPU and HDD completely so that it was back to how it was before and still nothing. I put a paperclip in pins 16 & 17 (on the 24 pin conector) to see if the power supply was the suspect but the fans started spinning and it was acting as it should. Is my MOBO at fault? Or is there something else that could be the problem?

SPECS:
I7-4790k 4.0GHz
Thermalright True Spirit 90m Rev.A
Asus Z97-P Intel LGA1150 ATX Motherboard
XFX Radeon RX 480 GTR 8gb
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16gb (2x8gb) RAM
Corsair CX650M Semi-modular PSU
1tb Western Digital 7200m HDD
Crucial 512gb MX100 SSD

Solution
Then its most likely a pretty low chance you did discharge any electricity into the motherboard. Since your PSU works fine, I'd suspect Faulty motherboard.

Is it possible that you fried it with a static shock? did you take the precautions to avoid any electric discharge to hit your motherboard? Also maybe try clearing your cmos http://www.howtogeek.com/131623/how-to-clear-your-computers-cmos-to-reset-bios-settings/

Appreciate the quick reply. I didn't take the precautions to avoid any discharge hitting my motherboard so thats definitely a possibility, didn't really cross my mind but it makes sense thinking about it.. Also i already tried clearing my cmos but it was to no avail.

Is it dry out where you live? when you touch blankets do you feel static etc? if so its more then possible. Where did you work on the computer? I've never fried any part due to any static shock and neither has anyone I know but it is possible. Usually it doesn't happen but if you weren't really cautious about it, it could have happened. I'd recommend buying a anti static mat to work on your pc in the future.

Also make sure all power cables are connected properly, Mostly the CPU and motherboard though.

I live in the UK, so its quite wet. I don't feel no static when touching blankets. I put my pc on a work table (made of wood) and carry out any maintenance there. I did the exact same thing when building it the first time around 6 months ago (albeit, it was alot hotter back then) .

Alright, thanks for the assistance, i'll see about getting a swap on the motherboard, it has to be the problem. I've tried just about everything else. Definitely no loose cables or anything like that. Thanks again mate.

Problem solved. Turns out the motherboard was the problem as the replacement has had everything up and running fine for about a week now. I still don't know what exactly went wrong with the board though. Anyway, thanks again for your help and I'll be sure to come back if I have anymore issues that need expert attention.
