I just built a new system last week and I'm seeing some weird things. It's was built to run heavy multi-core computing applications (sometimes 24x7) so I was planning to a slight overclock as stability is critical. The main computing application I've tested with supports multi-core computing but does not support hyperthreading so HT is switched off in the BIOS.
Even at factory settings I don't think it's offering the performance that it should. I'm running a Corsair 100i v2 liquid cooler but don't seem temperatures over 36*C after sitting at 100% CPU on all 6 cores for 24 hours. Power consumption is very low compared to published values as well (~65 watts at full load).
Setup:
Intel i7-6800k
Asus X99-A II Motherboard
32GB DDR4 Corsair Ram
500W EVGA 500B Power Supply
Crucial SSD
Win7 x64
Oddly, after going through the ASUS 5-Way optimization which applies a slight overclock my application only uses 20-40% CPU (core 2 goes to 100% and minor activity is seen on all others)
where with default settings all cores sit at 100%. What is keeping all cores from being used?
