So my buddy is giving me a good deal for parts. 300 USD for a 9590 the motherboard he used for it. he said it was a full size atx board and the fan he had with it. I have a silver certified 500 watt psu. 2gb ssc 960 amd fx 670k 8gb ddr3 ram. Will I have to upgrade anything else to for it to be compatible? And is the 9590 even worth getting or is intel just strictly better?

Yeah I have heard it has some heat issues. But its a really good deal for me. If i were to intel (i5-6600k) I would need new ddr4 ram mb cpu case fan and psu. that would be around 690 CAD. +shipping AND tax. So it only being 406 CAD for the 9590 seems like it would be worth it.

Yes psu, but he said he would give me his old fans that he used on the 9590. I've known him for 5 years and Through that time I was there when he got the 9590 and I never heard him complain about heating issues. Maybe because he had really good fans to cool it. Not that I'm saying you're wrong you obviously know way more than me about computers.

Warning: This power draw of this CPU is almost twice that of the average CPU. Due to this, AMD recommends using at minimum a 750w to 850w power supply. For cooling, AMD recommends using either either closed loop liquid cooling , h100i is the minimum .

You asked for advice; I think you should consider taking it.
If your "buddy" knows what he is doing, he is no friend and is taking advantage of you.
9590 is a VERY bad deal.

I do not know why you would need a new psu for a I5-6600K,
It takes waay less power than a 9590.
You will game better with a modest update to a $125 i3-6100, a $40 lga1151 motherboard, and 8gb of ddr4 ram for $35.
Here is a review of what it can do.

You can go higher with your budget and still have upgrades available.

We are not far off from the kaby lake launch.
Actually, I would be looking for the overclockable i3-7350K which will be in the $175 range.

This is indeed very much the challenge, these chips get incredibly hot. Trying to even run them at stock speeds seems to be hit or miss, I'd stay away from them.

Nono sorry, please don't think I'm being prejudice. I am taking this into consideration. So 9590 is terrible and REQUIRES liquid cooling.allthough, I think if I were to go intel I would go all out and future proof myself with a i5 6600k or something like that.

I just thought this was a good deal because its 350 dollars off of what I could get. he said he was running games fine for 3 years with his 1200w gold psu & the fans he had said he never had cooling issues. He was also running it with a 980

He just told me he has the only air cooled fan that amd would suggest. It's called the cooler master v8 gts. He said it's like hybrid air cooling/water cooling kinda
