Help! I heard you're the best: Have 3dMark test results. Some games run, other's don't, but have the same requirements

Hi there. Just recently I played Mirror's Edge, Catalyst no problem. Now it just cycles at the first load screen after the Frostbite logo. Battlefield 1 has a strange hiccup that happens even in the menu's, and I can play the game but the hiccup makes it impossible as even inputs (my game controller, keyboard/mouse) are affected. I can't play Plants vs Zombies GW2, despite the fact that I got it to load just a few weeks ago. Same goes for Battlefield 4.

I burned out an MSI 970a G43 a couple weeks ago and just recently replaced it. My rig is in my signature. I can run Titanfall 2, Dead Space 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, any number of other games no problem. I played TF2 for five hours earlier today without a hiccup. So far I have gutted out every driver and replaced it (EVERY DRIVER, even my PCI and BUS ports were checked), I have re-seated everything. I even bought a new PSU (My Rosewill has been replaced with an EVGA 600w as it was all that was available at Best Buy and I wanted to test this theory and still be able to return something).

I have posted in a number of forums specific to these individual issues (discussing GPU, discussing system, discussing gaming) and so far I have come up with nothing. I have had a couple of random crashes, blue screen with horizontal lines, black screen with buzzing, et cetera, which was what made me think PSU (though that Rosewill needed to be replaced anyway, I hear they can take out GPU's and Mobo's when they go).

PLEASE PLEASE help me figure this out before I have to pay to have a...ugh...computer shop take a lot.

Here's the 3d Mark Fire Strike results: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/16999945?

Feel free to PM me if it's easier to have a discussion, hell I'd even do a phone call or skype to try to solve this. I'm no noob, but this has had my head scratching for weeks now.

Hi,

To clarify things, the games that you have issues with, did they work normally before on the R9?
Also for the MSI 970a G43, you mean died or burned and a some smell came out?

Note: In the specs of you pc you mean 16 DDR3 RAM :p

They did (save BF1, I didn't get that until recently). And no, it just died. I think the VRM's went. I couldn't post anything, just barely spinning fans and no signal to the monitor.

Also, yes. I did mean that. DDR3 HAH. Whoops. Thanks for that!

Also, just noticed this: HDMI cable doesn't work from my GPU!! I've been using VGA from DVI (adapter on card). Could it just be an old monitor? I mean, this thing has to be 6 years old by now.

Hi,

I don't think it is the monitor as the monitor have signal IN, so wont cause blue screen or freezing or ..etc. But lets assume it is software problem. Did you use software like DDU to remove the old Nvidia drivers? If do that, then install AMD Crimson 16.11.X (Don't install 16.12.X, it is buggy).

Also when problems start to appear while gaming did you check the temp for GPU and CPU?

Yeah, no major spike in temperature, but in BF1 at least a complete drop to zero FPS and then it immediately climbs back up. It doesn't just jump back to 60, it climbs very quickly. The other games I haven't been able to even get to the menu, so...who knows? I installed Crimson 16.12 last week. Let me see if I can find a 16.11 and I'll have another go at ripping it out and reinstalling .11. Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate this. If I can't get this done tonight I have to take this bad boy in to the store tomorrow. I actually need to do some reviews on these games for a friend (starting a website, I guess) so I need to get on it.

Downloading:

The Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.11.5 installation package contains the following:
Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.11.5 Driver Version 16.40.3211.1101

I'll gut out the old drivers whilst I wait.

No problem. Try first an Crimson 16.11.5 which is the latest version for 16.11. series.

If you went to a store to fix it, let me know what was the problem. As this can happen with anyone :)

Lastly, if they say the problem in the GPU it self try to replace it with another brand if there is (Like: MSI, Gigabyte, XFX)

Just make sure to DDU to remove 16.12.X version before you install the 16.11.X one.

Hi,

Sorry for late reply, I went to sleep :p

Did you try to install minimum things like the custom installation -> drivers only?

Did you try to remove the GPU clean the PCIe from dust and install it back?

Regards,

Sorry I couldn't help, the only thing is to proceed with what you were planning to do. Take your PC to a store let them examine it and see what is the problem.

All the best,
