@OP, you could upgrade to an FX-8300 or 8320e which are both 95w CPUs, and they would provide a respectable improvement. They're still low-end by today's standards and often outperformed by an Intel dual core, but it would probably still be more economical since moving to an Intel CPU would require you replace your...
If this is for gaming, the best upgrade would be to switch to Intel, but if not, then probably getting the AMD FX-9590 will suit your needs. Still, Intel's core to performance ratio is superior to that of AMD. A higher core count does not always means better performance. Just something to think about.
