New video card going from two 6 pin to 8 pin power connector

I currently have a Radeon HD 6950 with two 6 pin power connectors and my new card the MSI Radeon RX470 has 8 pins. Can I use an adaptor for two 6 pins to an 8 pin or single 6 pin to an 8 pin?
