Bios and Windows show different amounts of RAM

So I recently decided to go ahead a install a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo on my CPU (great investment, made a push/pull and keeps my CPU in the upper 20s when idle, mid 40s under heavy load and ~30 in BIOS). But onto the question/issue.

The problem I had was that the heat sink or heat fins on one of my ram modules was getting in the way, so I followed some instructions and used some heat to loosen the glue and remove the fins from one module to make space. Everything looks good on the module and my Windows System info show 16GB installed, but my Bios only shows 12GB installed. I'm not sure why or what the issue would be that would cause Windows to recognize the 4th module while my bios doesn't. Would anybody have some insight into why this might have occurred? Aside from the obvious which is I broke the memory module when removing the fins, which I'm not sure that would explain why Windows and my BIOS are recognizing 2 different amounts.

Not sure if you removed/replaced RAM in between boots while doing the described work. Sometimes, the CMOS register can be delayed in picking up new/changed hardware, so that might have been the issue. If it ever happens again, clear CMOS to see if BIOS picks up correct hardware on subsequent boot.

Seems my BIOS is now recognizing my RAM. Not sure what happened as I didn't change anything. Perhaps a BIOS error, or worse, a RAM error on that particular module. Guess we'll find out.

Seems that might be the case. I did remove a module to remove the heat fins from it... I'll just have to keep an eye on it to ensure there's no errors or issues with that memory module or the BIOS/CMOS. Thanks for the assistance.
