I am trying to fix a friends PC. The bios would post, then after than it would get stuck in a reboot loop. Windows never appeared to try to load. I took the HD out and attached it to my PC, checked for errors, rebuilt the MBR and still the same problem.

Then I used a win 7 disk to try to repair the install. I tried the bootsec / bootrec commands with no luck. After that I gave up trying to repair it and wiped the drive. At the command prompt I did the

diskpart
select disk 0 (only disk there)
clean

Now am I getting the error that windows cannot be installed to this disk. I am at a loss as to what to try next?

I did check the bios and the SATA is set to AHCI I am not sure what else to do at this point. I can boot into linux from a USB drive, but I have not tried installing linux on the HD yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes because when you use the clean command it sets the drive status back to RAW.

After using the clean command you have to format the drive to the desired disk format.
FAT 32, NTFS, or GPT type partition Jitter.

Use disk part to format the drive using the Ntfs file system or.

Format the drive in windows 7 install and set up by using the advanced drive options choosing Ntfs as the format type format the drive.

Once done click next on windows 7 OS install and setup.

I did pick format from the windows install screen after cleaning, but i did not try to format with diskpart. I will give it a go.

Still didnt work. Seemed to format fine, but I get this message. "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
