so i have been having problems with my rig lately and i am trying to find my way out of the maze.

my build

Asrock 970 extreme 3
amd fx-8350
gtx 970
8 gigs of ram

i have been experiencing an almost rhythmic frame drop in all my games like every 2 mins and am starting to get pretty annoyed with it. i have read that a new mobo should fix it and that i need to get a new processor in others so i am at a loss but i am ready financially to fix it.

here is what i am getting in afterburner and i dont know what to make of it
Every 2 mins my cpu load will hit 100% and then i get a significant frame drop for about 10 seconds

at the same time my gpu is doing the same thing with all stats across the board.

also when i hit the fps drops my temp for both cpu and gpu drop as well, (overheating?)
gpu is hitting 90 degrees and cpu is hitting 60

i hope this is somewhat useful info if you need more let me know.

THANKS!

i recommend if getting a new motherboard you hold off on the cooling...

the temperature is quite high for both the gpu and the cpu. The cpu is running at max temperature. the gpu is only 8* away from max but that shouldnt be a problem. the cpu is the main concern. are you using a stock cooler? if so try to reapply thermal paste and reseat the cooler.

The problem is likely you motherboard. It has weak power phases and can't handle the FX 8350's power draw, causing it to throttle back for a few seconds every couple of minutes. The problem got bad enough that ASRock actually removed the 8350 from the CPU Support List for that board. Best CPU your motherboard now officially supports is the FX 8370e, which is a low powered 8 core CPU with a lower clockspeed than the 8350.

If you don't want to replace your motherboard to keep your CPU, best thign you can do is get a top down blower CPU cooler to blow air over the VRMs, or mount a fan to blow air over that area of the motherboard if your case permits it.

i think you both are on to something with the cooler because i have a single fan watercooler and i let my comp set off for 4 hours and put a big box fan next to it and set it to high then launched my comp. played bf1 on ultra for a good 15 mins with no prob which is amazing compared to what i used to get so looks like i just need to upgrade my cooling then get a new mobo soon

i recommend if getting a new motherboard you hold off on the cooling until you get the new motherboard. this will make sure the new cooler is compatible with the new motherboard. Glad i can help.
