I'd want to double check it as well. Many times psu cables are labeled. If nothing else the male portion of the plug as well as the socket on the motherboard are keyed, meaning some of the plugs are squares while others have a couple of the corners angled almost as if rounded off. It's to ensure that the plug only fits one way. Make sure they line up properly.

It's likely installed correctly if it's powered and working but to be safe double check. It's also possible that what you experienced was a tight fit. The way those plugs are molded they don't always fit perfectly. It's not uncommon for them to be tight, they rarely just slide together but rather require a bit of force.

i take 'Expert suggestions ' as a insult to the ability of the forum's members

that aside.

if you had somehow stuffed a gpu 8 pin into the eps 12v it wouldnt have worked.

what i think happened is that you did not align the cpu connector well.No harm done but i would still recommend removing the connector and checking

checking the psu website.Im quite sure the cpu connector is the only other hardwired cable apart fro the 24 pin motherboard connector.Most likely a clearance issue rather than a electrical compatibility issue

The edges of the male plastic pins surrounding the actual connection pins inside have slightly rough squared off edges and the female openings on the motherboard power socket may have a slight 'lip' around their opening meaning everything isn't perfectly finished off and they may snag a bit until worked into place. Just they way they're molded.
