hi, ive just bought the skylake 6700k but i just saw news of the kabylake. i haven't unboxed my cpu yet so should i wait for kabylake or not? ive also heard its compatible with the 1151 motherboards but its only a tiny bit better than the 6700k. the new kabylake 7700k is apparently hotter as well which might cause some issues and the performance is almost the same. it comes out on the 5th of January if think but if someone can confirm it that would be great. please tell me if i should wait or just install the cpu. ive got a lot of pc parts that im holding on to until i find out what i should do with my cpu.

Solution
Just install the CPU. You will not gain a major benefit by waiting and possibly paying more. Until Intel OFFICIALLY announces all that we know..what you here is rumors. Same thing with games that are a year in development. Wait until you here from the SOURCE, not people who have "SOURCES."

Your 6700K will do just fine, and you should enjoy what you have, trust me.

The 7700K has no major architectural changes from the 6700K, it's just clocked higher. If you're not pushing the upper bounds of overclocking, you'll probably see zero performance difference between the two.

If paired with a new Z270 chipset, the 7700K will have the ability to use Intel's new Optane storage (a new type of SSD basically) and has a native USB 3.1 controller. The integrated video also has some more decoding features.

You'll also have to rely on your board manufacturer releasing BIOS updates that supports KabyLake which they may or may not do, plus unless your board has a CPU free method of updating them you'll need a supported CPU to update them first.

thank you for replying, i was just confused becasue i saw the kabylake and started to regret buying the 6700k but thanks for replying. so the 7700k wont be release on the 5th? ive just heard form some articles or is it being announced on the 5th.

I felt the same way when I got my 6600K earlier this year, but wasn't too bummed about it. It's still a powerful chip and should last a few years before upgrading is necessary and games can truly take advantage of it.
