So i have a 6700k OC'ed to 4.5Ghz its perfectly fine when playing games rendering videos and doing other heavy cpu stuff, but sometimes after i start up my PC and start browsing the web my PC would just completely power it self off then power it self back on with no warning.

i've never experienced this issue with any of my previous CPUs so im not sure if its an unstable OC or can it be something else? since it seems to be stable under load and never restarts... why would it crash when its almost idle?

system specs:
6700k 4.5Ghz 1.29v
Z170 Asus pro gaming Aura
2x8GB ram 2400mhz using XMP
EVGA SuperNOVA 750 B2 PSU
980 Ti G1 Gaming

Any help would be appreciated!

That happens when the CPU is overclocked. When you overclock the cpu works over voltage all the time and settings like C1 and C3 (sleep settings) are disabled. You should reset the UEFI to its factory defaults and see if the problem persists.

You should try to do the same light tasks again without the OC as it must be unstable at some point, especially in these light tasks where the cpu (with normal settings) tends to work at lower voltages in order to save power.
