Hello,

Iv'e been struggling with BSODs for a really long time and Iv'e tracked down the issue with something to do with drivers or maybe overheating apart from that i haven't been able to find out whats really happening.

Iv'e usually been getting bluescreens with the error message "System_Service_Exception". After reading a few articles i'm fairly sure it's something to do with the cooling. These BSODs only occur when the PC is under a high load although has happened once or twice after being under a high load then stopping.

Iv'e done the usual stuff that one does when their PC overheats. Iv'e cleaned the dust, replaced thermal paste, cleaned up the cables, I even bought a new heatsink which has brought the CPU temps down greatly but something is still overheating.

Using SpeedFan I've ensured that nothing is overheating apart from something labeled as just 'Temp 3". It is always much higher than all the other components and gets very hot, 80 Celsius plus) when under load and eventually bluescreening. I checked BIOS and all it told me was that the core and system weren't overheating and I'm really stumped as to what this mysterious temp 3 is.

This is what speedfan says about the temperatures: https://gyazo.com/f11c2c04a08c5dd9f6e63d21a626f6bb

I'm just incredible confused about whats causing these crashes and how im supposed to go about fixing them.

Thanks for reading my wall of text and I hope that you can help me with this.

PS: Whenever i boot the PC MSI afterburner says that my GPU fans are in auto mode and the way it goes about cooling it automatically is quite strange. The GPU fans won't start spinning unless its put up to 80% and will stop spinning if it drops below 75% fan speed.

speedfan shows all sensors on motherboard, but not all of them are correct. I have two that always show 65c & another showing -128c which is tricky
Have a look in configure on the temp tab and tell us what the Temp 3 chip & sensor is, that might help figure out what it is.

BSOD: can you download and run who crashed: http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed
it will create a summary of the bsod and might show us cause

Copy/paste results in here

What GPU are you using?

the temp 3 chip is F71878A and the sensor is just called temp 3

This is the who crashed report:
On Fri 30/12/2016 1:58:41 PM your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown (0xFFFFF80028034BE2)
Bugcheck code: 0x3B (0xC0000005, 0xFFFFF80028034BE2, 0xFFFFC2811FCC6200, 0x0)
Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.

Google query: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

and my GPU is a R9 270X

I also got this error:

On Mon 12/12/2016 11:39:39 PM your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\121316-9515-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x14A6F0)
Bugcheck code: 0x3B (0xC0000005, 0xFFFFF8005DE99BE2, 0xFFFFC701A7605B60, 0x0)
Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

And this :

On Mon 12/12/2016 6:06:27 PM your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\121216-8890-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown ()
Bugcheck code: 0x0 (0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)
Error: CUSTOM_ERROR
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error.
Google query: CUSTOM_ERROR

All signs are pointed towards drivers but they're all up to date. The only issue with them is that they're no drivers specifically for windows 10 but another forum post said the windows 7 ones should work just fine.

what motherboard do you have? might be easier to work out sensor coming from that angle. So far, I know its a Fintek F71878A sensor but only google searches for that lead back to speedfan. You might want to use https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php instead and see what temps it finds

Sometimes who crashed doesn't tell enough, Can you follow option one here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5560-bsod-minidump-configure-create-windows-10-a.html
and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD

that creates a file in c/windows/minidump
copy that file to documents
upload the copy from documents to a cloud server and share the link here and someone with right software to read them will help you fix it :)

After installing HWinfo it turns out that "temp 3" was actually my CPU temperature according to my motherboard but the processor section on both software say my CPU is only 22 Celsius. Considering i bought a new heatsink and cleaned all the dust out only a couple days ago 22 seems much more realistic than 80.

Im assuming something has gone wrong in my motherboard causing my motherboard to think the CPU is overheating when it is actually fine? Im not even sure if thats a thing that happens but would replacing my motherboard help this?

My current motherboard is 760GMA-P34 FX

It might be a driver or the bios, are you on windows 7? If so, go to here, choose your version of win 7 from drop down, and on utilities tab, download live update 6. You can use it to check the driver software on the motherboard and upgrade it.

strange, in hwinfo i don't have a temp 3, but have temp 2 & 4

what CPU do you have? the difference might be that one is looking at core temps and the other is the external CPU temp, but i wouldn't expect such a big variance. My CPU package is 33c but the cores are only just above it

I looked at the temps on the BIOS and they're accurate with the core temperature shown on speedfan but the temp 3 way off.

Is it likely that because the drivers aren't available for windows 10 only 7 that the motherboard can't get a accurate reading of the cpu temps making the motherboard think its overheating, causing it to bluescreen? On HWinfo it says the cpu temperature under the motherboards tab. In the motherboards tab it says its way overheating but in the cpu tab on HWinfo it says its a healthy temperature.

i wasn't sure what OS you were using, it is probably the lack of Intel driver support for your motherboard that has created the temp difference. You may well need a new Motherboard but it may not end there, as I don't know how well AMD motherboards support your CPU anymore. Might need to upgrade a few things.

The BSOD probably also caused for same reason, win 7 drivers don't always work well on 10

well i've looked around and found a motherboard that should work with all of my components that isn't too expensive. However i would like to avoid paying for a new one, is there anyway that i can stop my motherboard from bluescreening every time it thinks its overheating because the hardware isn't likely to get damaged as i monitor the temperatures myself more accurately than my motherboard does at this point.
