I have a 1TB HDD and want to upgrade to an SSD to move windows and maybe other programs onto it. Would a 120GB SSD be enough for windows and can i just move windows onto the SSD?

Solution
Gift card or no, I wouldn't get a 120GB drive in todays market.
Your choice, though.

Will a 120GB work? Yes. Just keep a close eye on the usage.

1. You can't move "just windows" onto that.
That would require a clean install.

2. 120GB is on the wrong side of the price vs size curve. At todays prices, you want at least a 250GB SSD.

3. How much total used space is on your current HDD?

I have 161GB free of a 1TB HDD. And what do you mean a clean install. Does this mean i would have to download all of my programs/games again?

Yes, that is what a clean install is (mostly).
You'd be starting from a brand new OS, just like the first time you turned on this PC.

so, if i do this would 120GB be enough for windows and any future updates windows gets? Also i wont be going for 250GB (even though it may be better price for size) because i want to get the SSD with a gift card and don't want to spend any money.
