Only led lights, nothing else on the MoBo nor computer works with GPU

I have custom built a computer with the following parts:
Case: NZXT H440
Motherboard: ROG Maximus VIII hero
CPU: Intel i7 6700k
Gpu: MSI GTX 1070 Gaming Z
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G1, 80+ GOLD 750W

In addition, I got an ordinary SSD and HDD plus TP-Link for WiFi.

After putting everything together, with the exception of the GPU, the computer starts up and work just fine. I was able to install the Windows 10 PRO.

I have put all power cables where they should be, both in the GPU and the PSU.

However, after installing the GPU, nothing works. Sure, you can see some LED lighting on the MoBo but fans are off and nothing else starts up.

Also, I have updated bios to ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero to version 2202.

The question is, could the motherboard broken or could it be a bad video card?

Native graphics and the GPU usually disable one another, so if you used the onboard first then a CMOS reset may help get things back to normal.

Are there any LED's on the GPU to indicate power? Did you connect the power supply(supplies) to the GPU?

See if a CMOS reset fixes it first.

First of all, thank you for taking time to answer. No, I can't see that any LED on the GPU are lit. I connected both the 8 and the 6 pin plug to the GPU.
I'll try the CMOS reset.

Thank you for responding. I tried a GPU from my old computer and got the same result, the computer didn't start at all except for the lit led on the motherboard. The old GPU worked both before and after the test when in my old computer.

Nothing worked in the new build but the old GPU worked in my old computer both before and after testing it in the new build. With the old GPU, the reaction in the new build was the same as when using the 1070 GTX.

Ok I get you.. so did your board have standby lights, or are the LED's only when you power up? If so, you have power but the fans should be spinning. Are they all connected to fan headers?

Have you double checked your front panel connectors?

If I don't have the GPU (1070 GTX) installed, the computer works including fans and everything. I have even tried to play a simple game which works with the inert video graphics. The LED are lit when power is connected and PSU is on. The front panel connectors are all working.

However, when I install the GPU, the computer does not start, the fans aren't running, the only thing is that the LED in the MoBo are still on.

I have to admit thats a really strange one. I cant see any logical reason why the GPU would prevent the system from booting at all, unless it was causing abnormal power or voltage surges, but you have a very good PSU. Can u try the card in another system?

Regrettably, my old computer is too small.

I tried as follows:

Since the Card could be slotted in Either of the top 2 PCIex16 port, I tried them both.

(Instructions are from the Maximus but should be the same)

Remove the Card and enter the BIOS:
Load Optimized Defaults.
FAST BOOT: [Disabled]
Graphics Configuration > Primary Display: [PCIE]
DMI/OPI Configuration > DMI Max Link Speed: [Gen3]
PEG Port Configuration > PCIEx16/x8_1 Link Speed: [Gen3] (Top slot closest to CPU)
PEG Port Configuration > PCIEx8_2 Link Speed: [Gen3] (Lower Slot furthest from CPU)
Save and Exit.

Then put the card back in.

If the Same results in Both Slots, RMA the card.

but had no luck at all, same result - a no go on fans et al but MoBo led were lit. When I took the GPU out of the computer, it started w/o problems.

Advice?
