GTX 1070 8GB Rog Strix and FX-8320

Hey ppl. Need some feedback on some issues cosidering my newly bought gpu. My cpu is a AMD Fx-8320 with Asus Sabertooth 990Fx R2.0, 16 gb 1600mhz Ballistix sport ram and just upgraded from a GTX 970 4g gaming from MSI, to GTX 1070 8GB Rog Strix OC version. I'm getting some framedrops and stuttering In Bf1 and it seems that the 1070 is only using 50% - 60% of its potensial. Is it because of the cpu? Or can someone suggest a cpu that runs better with that card? Without changing the motherboard to Intel ofc. Any reply is helpful at this point!

Yes it is absolutely the cpu. It's far too weak for a GTX1070. Unfortunately for you, there is no upgrade path on your motherboard. Your best bet is to overclock your FX as high as possible or upgrade to a more modern cpu + motherboard. Pretty much even the cheapest i5 on the cheapest motherboard would be an huge upgrade.

BF1 is a CPU hog. It is wrecking even i5s and even lower end i7s. As for the lower GPU usage that is to be expected if your CPU is creating a bottleneck. To check this drop you graphics settings to low and your resolution as low as it goes. What ever that frame rate is it is the best your going to get with your CPU. From there you can slowly step up your setting to find a playable res/graphics settings. I have been responding to posts like yours 6 and 7 times a day for BF1. Sad truth is it is a CPU resource hog. On the upside it is very well threaded and you have 8 of them. LMK if lowering the res/settings gives you a better frame rate. if not your stuck with it until you get a better cpu.

Most if not all games in the BF franchise have been quite a CPU hog, being the chaotically-explosive game it is. Everything has been pretty much said.

That CPU is bottlenecking the heck out of that 1070 of yours. And unfortunately there's probably not much you can do without upgrading the motherboard and CPU, as a whole.

Well, i figured as much. It's time to upgrade the motherboard and cpu anyway so i might as well do it now. It was a sale on the 1070 a few days ago so I just went for it. But, since i'm upgrading now, do you guys have a suggestion on what to get? Either way, thanks for the reply! Helps alot. :)

A Skylake platform is the way to go at present. But AMD's Zen platform is right around the corner. Supposed to be a Q1 2017 release.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. But, i overclocked my 8320 up to 4 Ghz recently and it helpt alot, at least in Dishonored 2. on Very High settings its never under 60 fps, it may be a more gpu based game (I don't know.) but it runs really well now. Do i need to change my motherboard for the new Zen processors from AMD? Since it's AM4 i mean..

Well, i'm back with one more question. I upgraded my motherboard to a Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon, my cpu with a i5-6600K, and 8gb of ram running at 2600mhz. Should mention that I also use the ID-Cooling Frostflow 240L liquid cooler. Been testing my new rig a few days with Watch Dogs 2, BF1 and Titanfall 2. It runs good, but just recently i monitored my CPU and GPU usage and temps with HWi in BF1, and my cpu usage was on 97-100% and almost the same in gpu usage. So you probably already know what my question is.. Is the 1070 STILL bottlenecking my cpu? The i5 is currently running at 4.1Ghz on turbo.

I think these guys are right about BF1 being a CPU hog. And your usage results show it. I recently gifted a relative of mine my i7-4790K and motherboard to replace his aging i5-2xxx system. He was having the same issues in BF1 with his i5. Now he says it is smooth.
