GPU works in x4 PCIe slot but not x16 or x8

Hello, I have a EVGA GTX 750TI Superclocked edition, and it works when plugged into the PCIe x4 slot but not the others. When I start up with it pluggee in one of the other slots Windows gets to the loading screen, but when the loading circle pops up everything freezes. My mother board is the MSI Z170A KRAIT

No, but I managed to get it working. I left the frozen loading screen for around 15 minutes and it seems to be working fine now.
