Hi guys,

My motherboard is z77x-ud3h and I currently have kingston khx1600c9d3k2/8gx. The configuration works great but I feel that a little boost when I use Photoshop would be nice to have. I am thinking about adding 2x4gx again.

Now what would you recommend? I don't think my Kingston kit still exists (PC was bought back in 2012) so I need to find something else. I guess I am looking at another 1600 MHz DDR3? I don't do overclocking.

Thanks!

I can find your RAM on Amazon -> https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-Modules-KHX1600C9D3K2-8GX/dp/B0037TO5C0

Unfortunately, for the price they want, I can find better deals for a completely new 16GB kit.

Here is a list of RAM modules that are 2x8 (16GB), 4x4 (16GB), 4x8 (32GB) that you can use with that board at the given specs on your current Memory DDR3-1600 CAS9 (with CAS8 and CAS7 included within the price range.)

If you wish to keep your current RAM and just add more:

Feel free to play with the settings on those lists to adjust toward the maximum you want to spend.

As to recommending:Pretty much now days RAM is RAM is RAM. Most shouldn't have any issue playing together with other RAM with the same ratings.

Thanks Shrapnel! Sorry forgot to mention I am in Canada :)

First time I hear about pcpartpicker (Great site!!) and added my configuration to find a Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB. https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-Vengeance-Desktop-Memory-Cmsx16Gx3M2A1600C10/dp/B009M0TCK8/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1483154037&sr=1-3&keywords=Corsair+Vengeance+16GB

According to pcpartpicker, this new set should also work with my old set. (I only see 7 options from your list but when I create my configuration I see tons of options)

Should I then try both and see what's going on? I would have a total of 25GB. That seems more than enough!!!

No problem, there is a drop-down in the upper right hand corner of the PCPartPicker web pages that will let you tune the pricing and availability to Canada. (or the UK, or Australia, or other countries if need be.)

EDIT: LOL... after re-reading your post it seems you found it before I even mentioned it.

Thanks guys! Better safe than sorry, I will only try my new set. (Just curious, if both set don't work, I would be unable to start windows correct?)

I really appreciate your help!

While there is no guarantee, and the possibility always exists... there are many an anecdotal case of no issues. While I admit I myself haven't ran into such a case yet, there is always a first time. There are instances where they don't get along with older motherboards too, instances where RAM has issues due to density all by itself... yeah, most of those systems are over 10 years old now though. I hope I never do run into those problems, but as you say, there is no guarantee. I just offer choices. The risk is theirs to take.

Ive got a case here with this build I'm running of using G.Skill ECO DDR3-1600 CL7 (2x2) with Mushkin Blackline DDR3-2133 CL10 (2x4) at the G.Skill speeds (MoBo won't support < CL8 anyway) with no issues.) I've also had to return RAM before because its density wouldn't let the MoBo I installed it in recognize it. (That was years ago now.)

Pretty much. If it did manage to start, it would prove unstable if there were issues. Also of note, if you're using a recent version of Photoshop, it will take advantage of nVidia Cuda cores too. It might be an option for a later upgrade if you're GPU ever needed replacing/upgraded.
