Upgrading GPU: Should I buy another 970 or get a new 1070

I'm playing a lot of battlefield, particularly bf1 :)

Specs: :pt1cable:
MSI GTX 970 gaming 4g
i7-6700K
8gb (2x4gb) ram 2933mhz (according to task manager, although the box says 3200mhz)
144hz (O.C. to 160hz) 1920x1080 monitor

I'm getting 75-90 fps on bf1 with nvidia geforce experience optimal settings (all ultra, one high setting)

My question is: :??:
Will I get a better framerate boost from buying another 970, and doing SLI? Or Should I get a 1070? Or should I just wait until Nvidia releases an even better card next year, or at least wait until my current gpu dies in like three years?

So far I've made my settings all lowest to reach the full 160fps, but it looks ugly often

(Irrelevant, but, I see horizontal tv lines on my screen, and they're moving. I got used to it, but -- is it from the cheap displayport cable that came with the monitor, or is it the monitor itself? Or is it something else?)

Thank you to whoever responds :)

GTX 970's in SLI will perform slightly better than a single GTX 1070, IF the game supports SLI.

Keep in mind of the cons of going for an SLI config:
1) Higher power consumption
2) Having 2 GPU's in close proximity results in higher temperatures and possibly thermal throttling.
3) Driver support will not be provided as long as it would for the GTX 1070.
4) It can be a headache to configuring games/programs to take advantage of both cards.

As for your issue with your display, that could be a number of reasons. I swapped out my Nvidia card for an AMD card and the card doesn't recognize my monitor, which causes screen tearing.
I wouldn't get another 970 as you'll be limited to 3.5GB of VRAM in an SLI setup, which kind of sucks. I was in the same boat a month ago and ended up selling my MSI GTX 970 for $180 on ebay and buying a 980 ti on craigslist for $280. Seems like a pretty good upgrade for $100 if you can find a similar deal. Otherwise I'd either get a 1070 or wait for Vega, the support for SLI in games is thinning and it doesn't really make that much sense most of the time. As for the lines, you'll just have to experiment with a different cable and monitor.

Thank you guys, all of your answers are good, I would pick them all to be correct if I could.

I will stick to my graphics card for a while, then I'll get a new one, instead of doing SLI.
