I bought an i7-6800k at microcenter the other day, and the cashier asked what cooler I had. I told him (corsair H100i v2) and he said he had the same setup. He told me that the cpu runs hot, so put on my own thermal paste. I didn't think of this question at that moment, but should I remove the pre-applied paste from the cooler and use my own? If so, how should I go about removing it?

Have you ever removed thermal paste before? not being rude just wondering.

The stuff that comes on the h100i is shin etsu & its extremely good stuff - in the top 10 of all pastes available.
I wouldn't entertain changing it unnecessarily , there are maybe 3 different coumpounds available that will actually make more than 2-3c difference ,2 are diamond based, 1 is a solid setting compound that is near unremovable once applied (not something you'd use on a pump block).
