Hello, so either my motherboard or cpu (maybe psu) fried today. Won't know till I get to breadboard and trouble shoot those final 3 components.

My question, if one of the two needs to be replaced should I upgrade from a i5 3570k combo to a i5 6600k + compatible mobo. Or wait for next months kaby lake announcements. Or just replace the one damaged part and stick to the older architecture if the performance gains are slim.

A few details. I do alot of gaming and photo editing and want to squeeze every frame out of my gtx 1070 at 1440p. Wondering if upgrading is worth the performance to cost

I5 3570k stock
Gtx 1070
1440p 144hz
16gb ddr3
Win 10

Thanks for your time!

The performance gain of a 6600K over a 3570K isn't that great, if it is your mobo and you can find a reasonably priced one I'd do that. Otherwise, it makes a lot more sense to upgrade to a 6700K or wait for a decently priced 4 core 8 thread Zen processor in your case for the sake of actually getting a few extra threads for the money you're investing. Kaby lake looks like it's gonna be a dud, I wouldn't wait for it TBH unless you care about 4K streaming support off the iGPU.
