EtnoNyt is right you dont normally as windows does it on its own so its defo worth trying another cable... but iver had ones i needed drivers for in the past,.

what is on the USB do you know is it a program you can run or a zip file or what?

The problem is either that your modem/router has an issue or the wifi chipset (or wifi card) in your PC is missing the correct drivers or that the lan drivers are not installed, or all three.

On the PC side, you need to find out what motherboard wifi chipset (or wifi card) is present in your PC and confirm you have a correct driver installed. You might see a clue in Device Manager e.g. yellow question/exclamation mark...or not - thus all installed and hopefully working (the optimum driver may still not be installed).
Normally you find these as part of the motherboard installation CD or 3rd party wifi card CD. Pop the CD back in and go over the install process. You can also go to the manufacturers site and get the latest driver - providing a Windows 10 version is available!!

As PaulBlack suggested, you can also check out youtube.

This is assuming it's a standard A cable, not an older AT&T B cable or even a pc-pc patch cable, neither of which will be recognised by the pc without the corresponding connection on the other end.

When looking at the actual port, there should be 1 light on the port itself if it's functional, you'll see a second light flicker when there's data moving. If you aren't getting the first light, the port itself is not on, so you'll need to check the bios to make sure it's not turned off and make sure in Windows hardware that there is no errors on the lan

1st - what is your motherboard model name?
2nd - did you instal motherboard chipset drivers? I'm guessing - no.
3rd - after you instal motherboard chipset drivers, install onboard lan drivers.

All the drivers you can get from CD that comes packaged with your motherboard or download them from your motherboard manufacturer support web site.
