Hi, not sure how much you guys may be able to help me but no one seems to be replying on the steam forum.

So I have just built my computer with a i5 6600k and Gigabyte GTX 1060. When I play CSGO I get constant lag spikes that go from about 10 ping (what I usually get) - about 900+ ping. I really have no clue what the problem is. I have looked absolutely everywhere and found no solution. I am using windows 10 (seems to be common among similar cases) also i am using a wifi card, but this doesnt seem to be the problem as when using an internet tester i get normal speeds. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, I just want to get up and running. Thanks :)

There are way to many things to randomly guess. There are setting in the router and your pc but you can make a horrible mess changing wireless settings when the problem is something with your internet or maybe a defective router. Just like you could just assume your router is defective and buy another but that is a expensive option to blindly try.

This is the problem you need to isolate the problem to the wireless, your computer, the router or maybe the ISP. Only then can you think to find it.

Even a very long ethernet cable is fairly inexpensive and will tell you quite quickly if it is wireless or something else. You then do more testing to see if it is the pc or the router or the isp.

in your router it will have a status section that shows how many errors it has it will be called FEC errors and be seperated into up and down streams.. reboot the router or reconnect toreset it all to zero then check how many errors you get, I thin lyou will have loads of upstream errors caused by a fauilty wire somehwere.
where are you in the world what kind of internet connection do you have ?

See it is something user side cause in other games the connection is fine. I am in Australia, on a fibre connection (its something halfway not quiet as good as fibre but better than the old copper) but the ISP has a monopoly on my area and frankly its shit.

ok so if its fine in other games then it must be a firewall or port issue with your router.. are you sure its not just you play CSGO all the time ??

asdssuming you are right try turning things off temorerily l;ike the firewall in the router and any local one you might have just to see if its better. also it could be UPNP in the router too, so CSGO isnt opening the right ports but other games are.

its 1 am for me so if nobody picks this up, pm me all see where we are at tomorrow.

take care

First step is to try with a ethernet cable. The symptom of random ping spikes is exactly what a wireless problem will look like. It could be your ISP but you can not get good test results with wireless in the path. Most issues in the internet are going to be loss or spikes that are much smaller.

Your problem will be even if you think it is in the ISP network since the wireless is the most common cause they will not believe you until you have eliminated it.

So if it still does it on a wired connection you need to run a tracert to either the game server or a common ip like 8.8.8.8. This will likely show no issues because your problem is intermittent. What it does give you is the path the traffic takes. You now must open multiple cmd windows and run continuous ping commands to a number of the ip of the routers in the path. Your goal is to find the hop that the problem first occurs.

If you are very lucky it will be in the second or third hop since those are likely in your ISP network. If the problem is there is a slow connection between 2 ISP in countries very far away from you then you are pretty much stuck. The only way to get past that is to try one of the many vpn services and see if their network has a better path.

Thanks for the input. I think I will have to try a cable because I've just looked at my WiFi in task manager and the download speed seems to spike very dramatically for about 10Kbps to 500-800Kbps. Before i try cable is there anything else i could try as it is a brand new wifi card. Im not sure if this has any affect but my dad uses the Airport extreme for our network management.

Hey guys i know this is a pretty old forum. Ive been having this issue for a long time now. It started happening a long time ago and then i took a long break from cs. I changed my isp in that break. And it still has been doing this for months. I really want to play cs again but the teleporting around is too much. The game used to run perfectly fine. This is the only game that does this and its getting very annoying
