Ethernet is connected but my computer doesn't recognize it.

I recently crimped my own Ethernet cable and ran it from my router to my room. When I plugged in the cable to my self built pc the port makes a solid amber light and a blinking yellow light, which I think means it is connected. But the computer doesn't even detect the Ethernet cable. I used the same cable on a laptop and it was able to connect so I don't think it's a problem with the cable or router. I can't check for drivers because my computer has no internet connection.

My computer's USB wifi adapter actually broke recrntly, that's the whole reason I went to Ethernet.

Make sure the cable goes in with a solid click, no sponginess whatsoever. Remove cable and inspect the jack that you have a row of 8 pins, all straight, no bends. That's the last thing I have for you.

Actually one more thing. Modern ethernet ports are AUTO MDIX (look that up if you wish) but older machines may not, which *may* explain why the same cable works on one machine and not the other.

Yeah I made sure of that multiple times. I don't know what to do. Where should I go to get help with this issue?

Firs thing to do to rule out the cable is to plug the PC directly into the router with a known, bought, working cable. When you plug it in, do you get the little connected symbol at the bottom? Does device manager show a network device installed?
