Need Clarification Connecting HP Elite Front Panel to Gigabyte Mobo

Hello, I'm in the middle of a rebuild and the f_panel connectors on my H8-1050 are confusing me a bit. Since the wires and connection on old board are poorly labeled and I only have the new board manual to go off it's proving difficult.

Here's a link to the new mobo manual file:///C:/Users/Master/Downloads/mb_manual_ga-b85m-ds3h-a_e.pdf Page 14 & 15.

I can't find a manual for the stock IPISB-CH2 (Chicago) Pegatron 2AB5 mobo so I've been reluctantly going by the reference diagram in the link below.

I don't want to damage anything so I want to be sure I'm doing it right.

There are no speaker connections despite that I was able to hear beeps before on the old mobo.

Also if you notice on one of the USB headers in the old one there;s an extra 2 pin connection so on the new one it's just hanging there.

Finally in the second USB header is just half a connector a 4pin and I'm not sure if I put it in the correct row in the correct direction.

Solution
These HP's are not built to be 'upgraded'. In many ways, even beyond the simple wiring.

The vast majority of HP owners never change anything, apart from installing this years version of TurboTax.

I have no idea what you're saying please be more specific. You just wrote one sentence then pasted known specs of the board.

The usb 3.0 header takes the usb 3.0 from the front panel just fine so how does it not use it? Which wires do I need to remove exactly and why?

I found the layout of the board and have added it to the image link and it looks like I have it in correctly for the fpanel header.

HP cases often have proprietary front panel connectors, that only talk directly to the original HP motherboard that came in that case.

Through trial, error, and experience...you might be able to mate that case connector to a regular ATX motherboard.

But its only a case. Get a new one for $30.

By front panel connectors do you mean all of them or just the USB ones? Which can I get away with? I figured at worst the main power reset and lights would function and I have them lined up properly now. The USB 3.0 connects just fine and should function as well all that's left is the correct orientation of the 4 pin USB connection on the USB 2.0 header and what to do about the extra 2pin on the other USB 2.0 header.

Are you saying even if I plug it all correctly it won't turn on and function properly? If so why?

I'm just saying that the HP case headers are often non-standard.
Front panel, among other things.

Can you make it work? Probably. This may require a multimeter, to trace exactly which wire is for what.

So I can't remove the wires because since HP is proprietary there are no pinout diagrams for the USB 3.0/2.0 I can find short of using a multimeter and tracing it as you said. Also after reading this:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/ipisb-ch2-motherboard-usb-3-0-pinheader-pinout/td-p/4076578

and

I'm realizing this guy was in the same situation as me and luckily I haven't experienced the disastrous result of trying to use the 3.0 slots. While it fits, the wiring is non standard as Calvin7 stated and would have damaged my flash stick! I'm shocked because how do they get away with making a UNIVERSAL Standard Bus proprietary???

I'm definitely going to leave the USB 3.0 disconnected and simply use the ones on the motherboard for now but as for the USB 2.0's I was hoping they were "connectable" in some kind of reliable way. This user didn't express any issues with USB 2.0 specifically and also didn't express issues with turning on or using the computer which tells me I should be ok to do that much until I can get a new case.

I'm really regretting this whole situation I went from just wanting to upgrade the GPU to having to upgrade the motherboard to purchasing adapters for the outdated PSU to now needing a case too. Had I known that I would have went with a full ATX motherboard and probably a good PSU but now I'm worried this pos 460w HP PSU will end up frying my new GPU/CPU/MOBO too after reading that especially because i'm using a 6pin to 8pin PCIe and 4pin to 8pin 12v adapter.

Apparently you're either stuck in the corporate loop or you're on your own there is little in between aside from basic Memory and Hard Drive upgrades.

All in all, since the pinout for the main fpanel connector is published then it's known even if proprietary so according to the images I should be good to go. I'd appreciate if at least those connections can be confirmed.

Right on I just wish I was made aware of that in the first thread I posted about upgrading the GPU but I was severely misled by a user on here. Either way can you just confirm that the fpanel header is connected properly and that the use of these 2 psu adapters won't damage my new hardware?

Happy New Year by the way!

Personally, I'd be much more comfortable recommending if I had hands on and a multimeter.

And Happy New Year (12:18)
