3pin fan to 4 pin mobo

Does it matter if i get a 3 pin and and connect it to a 4 pin mobo?

You can connect it to the mobo no problem.

The only thing that changes is the motherboard can't change the speed of the fan.

not true.
I run ONLY 3 pin fans (apart from my CPU fan) and can control them over the SIV utility for my Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 7 just fine
the difference is, that the fan isn't controlled by PWM but by voltage regulation.

I do not know how well a cheap board like the above does that, worst case you're stuck with 100%/75%/50% speed, best case you can control it with any speed between 50-100% fan duty.
