You'll need a cooler, whether or not you intend to overclock; the 6600k doesn't come with one. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO or the Cryorig H7 are both perennial favorites, reasonably priced, and would work with your CPU and case.

I'm guessing that you're either not in the U.S., not spending USD, are getting the video card used, or just found an incredibly good deal on it? At full price for new gear in USD I'd recommend the MSI 1070 ARMOR 8G OC over the 980, but there's no way the build would come in under $650. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127951

The HALE82 isn't one of the awesomest PSUs, but it's not terrible, especially if it's the white aesthetic you're after.

OOPS! i forgot a couple of things. the 980 is being salvaged from my old rig.
and i forgot to mention the cpu cooler i was looking at is the ARCTIC COOLING Liquid Freezer 120 ACFRE00016A 120mm Liquid CPU Cooler

my bad!i wanna know every detail possible so i dont screw up. i sorta accidently over-volted my last rig by putting 1.900 instead of 1.190 on accident. and something happened to it i for some reason cant fix. so i give up and im gonna sell it to someone who wants to fix it and upgrade to a new rig. i need to redeem myself!

Yeah, that should all be compatible. If by efficiency you mean energy efficiency, probably the two biggest components affecting that are the GPU and the PSU, and your options there are limited by your other circumstances and criteria. It won't be the most efficient rig ever built, but you could do worse.

is there anything i could possibly change?
what do you mean by the psu and gpu arent energy efficient? like the psu might not be able to power the 980?

He means that your PSU is not 80+ Platinum, and that the GTX980 isn't as power efficient as the new Pascal stuff.

That aside, with 492W max on the 12v rail, I wouldn't trust it OC'ing a GTX980, especially if you want to OC that 6600k. If you plan on leaving it at stock clocks and just using it like the average user, I don't see any problems whatsoever.

So would it be safer to maybe get a better PSU?
if so any recommendations?

I mean i learned my lesson on trying to overclock my old rig and accidentally frying something.
I wouldnt have to OC for League of legends/World of warcraft/ fl studio even with clock speeds ill have enough fps right

Unless you like mad overclocks like me, you probably don't need a different PSU, especially if you have it already. The one you've listed, however, is not exactly bang-for-the-buck gold though. Peruse the PSU Tier List here on Tom's Hardware. There are quite a few 650W 80+ gold power supplies for the same cost as that NZXT one. I know the list isn't exactly up to date with the newest of new PSU's, but it's got the vast majority of what's available covered.

Since you edited, I must edit too: You're buying yourself a k sku CPU, a Z170 motherboard, and a dam good cooler. There's practically no reason not to OC that CPU. Because you can. I'm not saying blast it balls-to-the-wall like I do, just a mild OC on stock voltages would do. Just because you can. Because I'm jelly and only have a locked i5. And my overclock itch is starting to come back.

I'd try & squeeze 2x8gb ram in there from the off .
Cooler wise the deepcool gammaxx 400 is a good cooler at a good price if available to you , blue LED's so will fit in with the case fan LED's.

That hale is a little close to the edge for running a 980 (its a 500w unit really not a 550) if you own it already then use it but if you don't buy something else.

what wattage should i go for? i havent bought anything yet
also should i really shoot for air cooling?

A GOOD 550w will do you , the nzxt you listed is really just an average quality 500w (ignore the labelling)
I understand you probably like the looks with the white cables etc but its not worth the compromise on quality.

A good air cooler is plenty for a 6600k & all the ones mentioned are decent.
Your case takes coolers up to 161mm so height isn't going to be a major issue.

PSU/cooler recommendations would be dependant on your country ??
Let us know that & you'll get decent options recommended.

You'll need a CPU cooler to overclock your i5-6600k, hyper 212 evo will do. Buy cheaper ram, because 3200 mhz is unnecessary. Also I would buy a better GPU, like a GTX 1070.

how about this PSU - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16817438053
or should i get the 650 to be safe
and this ram - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313795&ignorebbr=1

Beyond basic performance, the monetary value of RAM aesthetics is entirely up to you. Considering the fact that you may have to fit an air cooler on top, a fancy massive RAM heat sink may not be the best idea.

EVGA Supernova anything is top tier quality, and because of its top tier quality, demands a top tier price.

When looking at power supply wattage, the most important part is to look at the wattage available through 12v. Since wattage is calculated by voltage x amperage, you can look this stuff up pretty easily and plug it into a calculator. For example, the SeaSonic S12II recommended above runs 24A through each of its two 12v rails, so it can theoretically supply a safe maximum of 288W through each rail for a total of 576W. This, however, means no individual component can pull more than 288W peak, since dual rail PSU's tend to have one rail for the CPU, and the other for the GPU. This is why I like single rail power supplies better.

Oh the supernova 650w and 550w are the same price on newegg. If they're the same price, get the 650w. There's a whack ton of 80+gold 650w power supplies at that price point though. The rest is up to you. After all, I'm still here sitting on my Tier 4 PSU, too cheap to get a better one. I don't fix what ain't broke.
