Upgrade from an E6400 to an E7600 CPU?

What are the chances of an E7600 CPU working on an Intel board that currently has a E6400, and manufacturer specs (circa 2008) top out at an E6700? It has the last BIOS Intel released for it in 2009.

The E7600 was the fastest Core 2 Duo with 1066 Mhz FSB, which is what the E6400 is running.

A curious thing about this board is Intel doesn't list any Core 2 CPUs in their compatibility list, yet MPC used them on this board in their later ClientPro systems.

Intel DQ965CO micro BTX. Intel's docs make no mention of Core 2 CPUs at all, yet MPC installed them up to the E6700 as their top option prior to going out of business in 2008.

Trying to decide whether to buy the fastest CPU MPC listed as compatible, or spend a little more on the fastest LGA 775 CPU with 1066 FSB and hope it works. According to CPU-world, there's not a lot of performance difference between the E6400 and E6700, but going up to the E7600 would be pretty significant.
