Worth upgrade? or wait?

What is the best 1155 processor i can get for gaming. or should i wait and upgrade to a new socket in a year or so.

current build is .
cpu 15-2300 2.8ghz 4 core
Ram - 16gb ddr3 1600 mhz
psu - evga 700b 700w 80+ bronze
gpu - radeon saphire r9 290 tri-x OC 4gb ddr5
mobo - sandy bridge h67 chipset

You could get an i7 2600-2700k but it's better to just wait and upgrade to a whole new socket.

was reading on anandtech benchmarks and was like a 5% gaming difference if even that. ill just have to wait til i can go with a skylake build with new mobo/cpu/ram

looking at i5-6500 with gigabyte mobo and 8gb ddr4 2133 ram kit for about 280

looked at ivy bridge also and didnt even seem like that was a great upgrade. since my board will take an ivy bridge cpu

Intels next gen cpu's will be here by then and amd zen will also launch soon. So you probably will be able to find something better for less.

true but my mobo can not OC nor would my stock cooler be safe to OC with.....so if replacing those and cpu why a 2600k?

Well my friend has a 2600k oced to 4.4ghz and has no trouble running games even with a gtx 1070. Intel's performance gains every new cpu launch has slowed down with the new 7700k being 1% faster than the previous 6700k at the same clocks. That is why an oced 2600k doesn't require and upgrade. However if you don't have it don't get it newer and better things will launch soon anyway.
