I know there are some threads already on this but they are a bit old.

I have i5 2500
8gig ram
560w power unit
currently have AMD Radeon 6800 series card and was wondering what would be a good replacement? I see threads recommend the GTX 970 but they dont seem to be at my local supplier? (Brisbane Australia)

I mainly play FPS like the Battlefield series and was hoping for something around $200. Max 300. Sorry if not enough info, just let me know if you need more, Im not pro level :)
Thanks

Solution
Yep, i can.

In your case, get RX 480 4GB for 335$ instead of GTX 1060 380$

In short: RX 480 and GTX 1060 are very similar-performing cards. GTX 1060 wins over 480 at DX11 and RX 480 is better than 1060 at DX12.

RX 480 has a better price/performance ratio and also should be more future-proof, because from the stories i've heard/read, AMD drivers tend to become better with time and after a few years AMD cards can achieve better performance than the day it was bought.

Yes, i also see that 970 would be a good pair for your i5-2500. But i would pick something newer, that would be either AMD's RX 480 4GB or Nvidia's GTX 1060 6GB graphics card. These both cards are created for 1080p@ultra (all-maxed-out) gaming at 60fps. Choose the one that's cheaper in your area.

Thanks for your advice. Locally i can get AMD 4gb for around $335 and the GTX 6gb $380. Are you able to tell me what the difference is?

Thanks

Thanks. I was wondering about the install side of things? Ive got a Cool Master PS. I can identify components but was a bit unsure on process of replacing the graphics card?

Do i download the drivers before removing old card? Or will i be able to do it after new one is fitted?

Cheers.

You have to delete old drivers (sometimes requires additional software) and remove old card. Then put a new one inside and install new drivers. If you don't uninstall old drivers correctly, you might have performance issues, but it is correctable.
