Hi, I have about $200 to upgrade my prebuilt I bought two years ago.

Specs:
AMD FX-4300
XFX R7-260x 2gb
M5A78L-M LX plus motherboard
8gb DDR3 RAM
465gb Seagate hard drive
Corsair 230T case
Corsair CX 430M PSU
(Please tell me if you need more details.)

I mainly want to improve performance on GTA 5, The Witcher 3, and Bethesda games (Skyrim, Fallout NV). Should I be upgrading my CPU or my GPU? Which upgrades would be compatible with my motherboard/case? Thanks in advance for the help!

Solution
Gta 5 is mostly CPU power while witcher 3 is again mostly GPU power with CPU being utilised fully only in cities. I had a r9 270x and it gave me decent performance in all of those games, also maybe upgrading to a fx 6300 could be a good idea,it is cheap and decent performance wise for those games, the PSU should hold up but again you should check if you have enough power to supply your upgrades, you have some good calculators online just to make sure. Also note that with 200$ you won't be getting some amazing boost in performance since both your GPU and CPU have aged, but honestly it depends whether you need a new CPU more than a GPU and vice versa

I also forgot to mention in my OP that I play a lot of MMOs, which tend to be more CPU intensive. I was thinking of getting a 1050 ti and, like you mentioned, an fx-6300. That way the GPU won't bottleneck the CPU or vice versa. I will have to go $50 over budget, but I'm fine with this. Does this sound like a good upgrade?

of course it is a good upgrade, specially if you are on a tight budget and want to have a smooth gaming experience but expect to turn some graphics settings down if you expect to keep it for 2-3 years. And make sure that your PSU can support the upgrade, your PSU should be enough but it's better to double check so you don't have any issues
