I just recently got some new parts for Christmas and I was really excited to finally be able to install them. I got a new motherboard, cpu, ram, and case. Everything was going its best until I tried to turn on the computer. Nothing. No sound. No movement. No lights. My heart sank as I tried to figure out what might have happened. I triple checked all of my connections and made sure I didn't miss any key components. All components were there and connections were solid. I (thinking i got a DOA motherboard) switched everything out for the older components to get something running while I waited on a replacement mobo. Hit the power button. Nothing.

For both motherboards I tried to starting them manually with a flathead screwdriver, but still got no response. Then I used a paperclip to see if the psu died. The fans didn't turn on so, yes, it's dead. Went to best buy and got a new psu and installed it with the old components. Hit the power button. Nothing. At this point, I am freaking out. I didn't see any flashes of light, burn marks, nor did I smell anything so I don't think the old psu killed my motherboards but I don't know what else could be wrong. Any suggestions?

tl;dr - new psu because old one died. installed two motherboards. computer wont turn on with new psu. both motherboards might be dead because of old psu.

Thank you! With some patience, I tested each RAM stick in each slot on the new mobo. Turns out 2 of the 4 ram slots are defective, but all ram sticks function. Ordered a mobo replacement. Put back in old components and everything is working wonderfully!

Well, I got it working. Now the computer just continuously reboots without ever reaching the bios.
