I bought an H100i GTX ages ago with my 4690K (also overclocked). I planned on re-using the same CPU cooler for another CPU but the choice to bump up my budget and go for a 5960X is only recent (and after I've already purchased the H100i GTX).

If i have to, I can purchase another CPU cooler, as I will be taking a gap year in 2018 having finished school, so I have a job already lined up with my dad's mate of about 25 years or so. I'll likely be earning enough then to pay for even an $8000 AUD build, but if I don't have to buy another cooler then I won't.

Personally, I wouldn't risk using one. I'd just use a good air cooling solution. If you have good case air flow. An air cooled heatsink works great.

If I were to use liquid cooling I would replace it when I replace the motherboard and CPU. Unless it is under a year old.

Since you are...

So it's possible that it could leak? Are the chances slim?

Yes it is possible. The lines can fatigue over time or dry out, seals can fail, &c. Ever have a cars radiator spring a leak, water heater, garden hose, &c. It's the same principle. Water pressure varies, equipment and lines vibrate, over time failure will occur. It is just a matter of when not if.

So.. given this information, would you recommend I just buy a new cooler anyway to make sure that it leaks anytime soon? What would you do?

Since you are already replacing most of the parts. You could place your old motherboard, CPU, RAM and liquid cooling in a cheap case with a cheap PSU. Toss in a cheap hard drive or a spare if you have one laying around and a cheap copy of Windows off Kinguin.net. Then sell it off to maximize the money you get. Unless you have a retail Windows license you current license is linked to that motherboard anyways.

The H100i should be fine. I was in a similar boat, and purchased an EKWB Predator 360 to replace my two year old Kraken X61 for my 5960X but ended up reverting back to the Kraken after the Predator leaked. This thing still manages to keep my CPU cool with a healthy overclock.
