Hi,
I just finished a PC for my son for Christmas and had a question. His PC is connected to his HDTV via DVI to HDMI cable. The video card sends the sound through the HDMI cable to the TV. Would a sound card do anything in this situation, since, as far as I can tell it's the Nvidia sound drivers processing the sound at this point?

If you use hdmi output of video card and connect to TV with hdmi-hdmi cable, then sound card is not needed.
If you use converter dvi->hdmi, then audio signal is not carried over and you have to use audio output of sound card.

No...the DVI to HDMI is carrying sound. The TV speakers play sound from the PC and in the sound settings it lists Nvidia High Definition Audio as the device. Nothing is plugged into the sound card, I'm just questioning it's usefulness in the system, since if Nvidia HD Audio is the device chosen for output that's what's processing the audio for the PC....not the sound card, correct?

I wanted to see cable plugs.
Can't see anything in that 101x180 pixel image.

This is DVI pinout. As you can see there is no place for audio signal.
