Sorry about the long description just want to give details..my sons old computer(A dell XPS 410 was my old computer that I gave to him that I upgraded) that he got from his moms house(sitting in basement) started up but no video..OK. I took it home with me ..I thought..he needs new card. I put my GTX 250 in that I know works cause I just took it out of my computer from an upgrade and I get the same thing...no video not even a BIOS screen. everything powers up fans and all but nothing on DVI or VGA inputs..after awhile I thought that maybe it could be the HDD??? I can unhook the SATA and power and the puter still powers on with no beeps and I can plug it back in while running and still nothing..I did notice that the front might have had water or moisture on the front bezel and not sure if it touched the hdd..Would a bad hdd not give you any video or not start up or anything not even any beeps or is it the motherboard..??? I am perplexed...shoot me any questions...

Have you reset the BIOS? I doubt its the Hard drive, but to test unplug it and boot. if the system still does not boot the hard drive cannot be the issue.
try this, remove the RAM, verify that the speaker is connected to the motherboards header, and turn on the system.
The motherboard should beep at you like R2-D2. you should get the no RAM diagnostic beep. Mine is 4 short beeps, pause, repeat. yours will vary.
Removing the RAM will force a beep code and in my experience a dead motherboard will not beep when forced. if you get some beeps here good news the board is most likely good.
have you tried an alternate PSU?

most likely a damaged HDD will just fail to boot. you should still get video and see the motherboard splash screen. the motherboard would probably then tell you that there is no bootable devices found.

you can try resetting the BIOS/CMOS by pulling the battery or switching over jumpers if the motherboard has them. otherwise....what are the specs of the system?

Not sure of the full specs. It is a Dell XPS 410. It has been many years since I have seen this computer but all I did really at the time is add more ram and upgrade the Video card and OS, but back in the day it worked great...I will try your suggestion..thanks..

I will try your solution..I did not try a different PSU because it all powered up so I did not think it was a problem but I will try the memory suggestion to see if it is the MOBO..Thanks..

I did not reset the BIOS because there is no bios screen for me to go to...

The POST beep is after it's successfully found power cpu and ram. And it doesn't get that far . It can't be graphics or hdd it would beep and then error if it was one that f those..

I don't hear any beeps at all....even with hdd unplugged..

I just hooked everything up to try again these suggestions and unlike last night I had no beeps...I get 4 long beeps..pause..2 long beeps?? but still no video...anyone know what the beeps mean? Thanks

The only thing I did different this time was I used a DVI cable instead of using VGA to DVI adapters for the Video Card because it has only 2 dvi inputs..
