Hi, I am new here, so sorry my bad english,

I dont know what else can I do to fix this problem.

My PC:

Micro: AMD FX-8350 - 4.0 GHZ
Mother: MSI 990XA-GD55 (with last available bios version)
Ram: 16gb
Video: Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6Gb Strix
PSU: 750w CoolerMaster
HD: Kingstone SSD 256gb x 3

my problem is that every game a start with full quality get crashed after 20-60 min of gameplay
I can set low quality and just get more time before crash.

I have the lates Nvidia drivers installed.

i suspect the problem could be the gpu ram, but i am not sure, i cant find any good software to test ir.

I have run the full 3DMark sofware with full quality and options and no issues, i think because all the test get ended in less than 20 min, and they dont use more thar 2gm o GPU ram.

I have formated the disk and installed windows 10 pro again, and the issue persist.

I have called the Asus support, and they told me the problem is that my motherboard is PCIe 2.0 and the GPU is for 3.0, but as i know, that should not be an issue, in fact the computer starts ok, and i can use windonws and 3DMark with no issue, so I am really confused..I really dont know what can i do..

Is real that if the GPU is for PCIe 3.0 I cant use it in PCIe 2.0???
On the other hand, i have seached a lot in google and even in this site, and found lot of people having similar issues with this gpu kind, but in all of those post i havent found any usefull for my problem.

Also i have tested the gpu temp and all the rest of parameters and they seems to be ok.

Any suggestions?

Again, sorry for my english..i am not native english speaker.
and Thanks a lot in advance...

Solution
Hi Guys, thanks a lot for all the suggestions, I think I have found the problem, but i really dont know exactly how or why.

Looks like my msi 990xa-gd55 have compatibility issues with the video card or something like that, because a have tested the video card on a asus mainboard of a friend, that is even older that mine, and the video card works fine...

On the other hand, my older ATI R9 280x 3gb works perfectly in my mobo, so, its very strange, both video cards are pcie 3.0.

Finally, i have decided to buy a new mobo, in this case from Asus, and right now everything is working fine...

So my advise for the future readers from my case, is to test the video card in the current mobo if possible before buy or test it in other mobo with...

No, you can plug in a PCIe 3.0 card to a PCIe 2.0 port without any problems, it will just reduce the bandwidth equal to PCIe 2.0. Have you tried to re-seat the GPU? I know it sounds like the most obvious possible solution, but it's amazing what the most simple solutions can do. Oh also, what things do you see when it crashes? I might be able to determine what caused the crash.

Hi ravenjedmanicdao, thanks for your answer..

As you suggest I will test re-seating the video card, and also change to the other PCIe port and let you know...
Regarding what I can see, the true is that its not always the same, some times, the game just get closed and return to the desktop, some others, a blue screen appears with a windows 10 QR error code, others the computer get freeze and have to restart to unlock it..
It happens with different games, like The Witcher 3, Prepar3D v3.4, Watch Dogs 2, Assassins Creed Syndicate.

Later: I have changed the video card to the second PCIe and test again, in this case Watch Dogs 2 full graphics, and after almost half an hour the game crash to the desktop again... :-(

I would suggest its a temperature or power problem. Can you run Prime95 for your CPU for 30 minutes and report the maximum CPU temp. Also run a GPU stress test such as Unigine Heaven or 3DMark Firestrike and report the maximum GPU temp.

Again, thanks to all and sorry for my english..

Hi, a have monitored the temperature all the time, using few programs, and the higher temperature was 82° while the maximum is 90° as i can see in the video card specifications.

Regarding the power i have tested my PSU in a friend mobo from asus using my video card, cpu and ssd and it works fine as well, i have a cooler master 750w.

Regarding the Stress test, i have run all the 3dMark test at maximun for a while in my pc and no problem..its very weird that a game get crashing and a 3dMark test doesnt...

thanks for your answer...
