Hey Everyone,

After 10+ years with a very out-dated and almost useless system, I finally bought and built the build of my dreams. Unfortunately, I have been having temperature issues with my CPU and it has rendered my build useless, upsetting, and depressing. My build is:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600k 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI Z170-A PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage: ADATA Premier SP550 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 390X 8GB Double Dissipation Video Card
Case: Cooler Master Masterbox5 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ GOld Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

My system is setup with 2 intake fans in the front, and the H60 liquid cooler as an exhaust out of the back (was the only way I could fit the H60).

Upon build completion, I had very high temperatures that I was not satisfied with and my computer throttled and shut itself down when playing GOW4 and/or Gigantic with the CPU temps easily going up to around and over 100 degrees Celsius. I turned off XMP and my temperatures seemed to go to a normal range idling at 25-35 degrees Celsius. However, even with minimal load on my CPU, my temperature jump up drastically. My GPU seems fine and idles 30-35 degrees Celsius and upon load doesn't go any higher than the low 60s.

When I run Prime95 26.6 Small FFTs my CPU quickly/immediately/and easily climbs to temps in the 90-100 degree celsius range at which point I become uncomfortable and shut it down. This has occurred with the original thermal compound that comes on the H60, plus I have already replaced the thermal compound as well. My liquid cooler pump is running at full speed, both intake fans at full speed, and the H60 fan runs at nearly full speed.

Does anybody have ANY suggestions for me? I am so upset by having spent so much money and having something that overheats and malfunctions so easily. It is turning me away from building a computer ever again in the future.

Sincerely,
Jack

I'm sorry but you have fell for the water cooling HYPE and the best air coolers will keep up with a water cooler. The single fan blocks come in 2 thicknesses and the thin is definitely no good. You should have gotten a dual fan 240mm if anything.
I'm sorry.
Please install a nice big air cooler with just one nice fan, and if you can add more fans to the case. If the bottom of the air cooler isn't smooth and you want the surface to be better on a copper base sand it till it is mirror smooth and you can go back to being proud of your build.
Please press the I like this answer button to get this off the unanswered queue.
