Issues with deciding either to choose wired or wireless networking for my newly built gaming pc.

I recently built a gaming pc with an Intel Gigabit LAN port so I could run an cat5e Ethernet cord from the wall using a Monster Powernet box to the computer. The problem is that it's very slow compared to my Alienware Alpha with a Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265 802.11ac, 2 x 2 Wi-Fi* and Bluetooth* adapter in it. When I connected the Alpha to the Ethernet, it slowed it down as well when I ran a speed test on it and tried downloading a very small game. The built gaming pc showed a download speed of 1.32 Mbps. The Alpha had a 5.60Mbps download speed when connected to the Ethernet setup. When the Alpha was wireless, it had a 45.13 Mbps download speed. I use a NETGEAR router with a 2.4ghz frequency and my ISP is Suddenlink. The motherboard in the built rig is a AsRock H97M Pro4 with Intel gigabit LAN port. Other things worth noting is the fact that the Ethernet cord is old and I'm not sure about how the wiring inside is, along with the Monster Powernet 200 boxes flashing red over "Network" which leads me to possibly think there's something wrong with the wiring through the house since the router works fine. Based off of this I'm wondering if I should go wired or wireless, and if so what setup would be my best option. I'm looking for it to compare to my Alienware Alpha's speed when it comes to browsing or more. Thank You for trying to help if you contribute :)

I think your problem is that the Monster Powernet is using really old standards for powerline networking. This is limiting your network speed. You could try upgrading to something like a Netgear Powerline 1200 (PLP1200).
