CPU Cache vs Core speed

I was overclocking my CPU's clock speed when I noticed the cache as well. I wasn't sure how fast to set it to so I set it equivalent to my clock speed. However as I reached higher speeds the system became unstable and wouldn't stabilize until I lowered the cache speed to the highest speed that it was stable at. Is the cache important? How large can the difference be between cache and core? Thanks

Increasing cache speed will improve performance, but not as much as increasing core speed, so it should be a secondary concern. You can try raising VCCIO and VCCSA to stabilize.

Just what damric said. FYI...If you are overclocking a haswell CPU, don't even bother with the cache. According to overclockers.net, increasing the cache clock nets you basically 0 performance boost.

I could only find VCCIO in my bios. If my memory serves me right it was a bit over 1.1V. What would be a safe value to set it to so as to not reduce the lifespan of my chip?

1.2v is the recommended voltage when using most x.m.p. profiles. I personally push it as far as my board lets me which is 1.25v.
